Mirik is an excellent tourist destination comes under Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Located close to India-Nepal border at an elevation of 4902 feet to 5797 feet, Mirik is a picturesque hamlet is mostly famous for the amazing tea gardens, beautiful lake, lush green valley, tranquil nature, impressive pine groves, nice gardens & obviously the stunning view of mighty Kanchenjunga on the far horizon. The name “Mirik” has been derived from the Lepcha word “Mir Yok” which means “the place burnt by fire”. This exciting scenic spot is located just 50 Kms. away from Siliguri Town & 43 Kms. away from Darjeeling Town.

Bus Terminus: The nearest major transport hub is “Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus” at Siliguri.
Several private vehicles & share jeeps are available at New Jalpaiguri station, Siliguri bus terminus & Bagdogra airport that ply between Siliguri & Mirik. One can avail those vehicles & get to Mirik in 1.5 to 2 Hrs. time.

Sumendu Lake: The Lake situated in the heart of Mirik is the main attraction of this place. The wonderful Sumendu Lake is much popular by the name of Mirik Lake. Exciting boating facilities are available in this 1.25 Km. long lake with 26 ft. maximum depth. The circumambulation through the 3.5 km. long promenade around the lake encircled by thick gigantic Pine groove will really be a charming experience for any tourists. People can cross the lake by walking through the excellent 80 ft. long arch shaped bridge across the lake. One can also go for the enchanting horse ride around the Mirik Lake.
Bokar Monastery: “Bokar Ngedon Chockor Ling Monastery” is a famous Buddhist monastery & meditation centre located on a hilltop near Rameetay Dara at Mirik. This huge & beautiful lamasery was established by Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche in 1984. The monastery & Buddhist education centre belongs to the Kagyud order and draws a numerous number of disciples every year from far and wide. You can enjoy the peaceful ambience inside this monastery amidst the serene range of mountains.
Rameetay Dara View Point: It is a stunning view point near the Mirik town which offers the magnificent view of the surrounding snow-clad mountains and the vast plains below. Sunrise and sunset seen from this point are truly fascinating one. The beautiful Bokar Monastery is also located nearby.
Debisthan: Debisthan is a popular Hindu temple located on a hillock inside the dense & beautiful Dhupi Forest on the western bank of Sumendu Lake. The Hindu goddess Singha Devi is being worshipped in this age-old temple.
Tea Gardens: Mirik is mostly famous for its beautiful Tea Gardens. There are several wonderful & renowned Tea Gardens in and around Mirik, that produce the world famous “Darjeeling Tea”. From Mirik, The bird-eye view of the surrounding hills covered with lush green Tea gardens will surely be the mesmerizing & lifetime experience for the tourists.
Orange Orchards: Mirik is also quite well known for its orange orchards. This is definitely a must visit place while in Mirik. The oranges are grown abundant in the places of Mirik Busty, Soureni Busty and Murmah at Mirik.
Pashupati Market: Pashupati Nagar is the famous market place located in Nepal, close to the India-Nepal border near Mirik. It is the popular trade centre for garments, electronic goods, household appliances and souvenirs. Indian tourists are being allowed to get inside Nepal up to this market place at Pashupati Nagar, but they need to hire the Nepali cars available at the border check post for this short round-trip of 1 hr. Pashupati market is located at a distance of just 16 Kms. from Mirik.
