Jayrambati (Joyrambati) is a small village situated 43 Kms. away from Bishnupur town & comes under Bishnupur subdivision in Bankura district of West Bengal. Jayrambati is mainly famous as it is the birthplace of Holly Mother Shri Sarada Devi, the devoted companion & spouse of Sri Ramakrishna. On 22nd December, 1853, Maa Sarada Devi was born in this village located just 6 Kms. away from the village Kamarpukur, the birthplace of Shri Ramakrishna. Jayrambati and Kamarpukur are jointly considered as one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations of Bengal.

Weather around the year:

The winter is quite comfortable and the temperature ranges from 10 degree to 20 degree Celsius but the weather remains hot and humid during summers and the temperature sometimes rises up to 40 degree Celsius. The monsoon receives heavy rainfall.

Best Time to Visit:

You can visit this place throughout the year, but the best seasons to visit Jayrambati are January to March & September to December.

How to Reach:

By Air: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, at a distance of about 100 Km, is the nearest airport of Jayrambati & Kamarpukur. From the airport one can hire pre-paid taxis or other vehicle to reach Jayrambati (at a distance of about 103 Km.) or Kamarpukur (at a distance of about 98 Km.) in around 3 hours. The road conditions are pretty good.

By Train: Neither Jayrambati nor Kamarpukur has its own active railway station. Bishnupur railway station at a distance of 44 Kms. is the nearest railway station of Jayrambati. However there are few express trains available from Howrah station near Kolkata, that goes to Bishnupur. From Bishnupur railway station you can hire a vehicle or avail local Buses to reach Jayrambati in one hour.

Tarakeswar railway station is another popular rail station near Jayrambati.  Tarakeswar railway station is located at a distance of about 50 Kms. from Jayrambati & about 45 Kms. from Kamarpukur. Plenty of local and express trains are available from Howrah railway station near Kolkata, those take you to Tarakeshwar in one & half hour. At Tarakeswar railway station, several taxi and bus services are available to reach Kamarpukur and Jairambati comfortably.

By Road: Jayrambati is about 110 Kms. away from Kolkata & take around 3 hrs. time to reach by roadway via Howrah–Dankuni-Arambagh route. Frequent bus services are available at Kolkata which are connecting Jayrambati & Kamarpukur with Kolkata. In the morning, the CSTC buses are available from Esplanade Bus Terminus (Sahid Minar) at Kolkata approximately in every one and half hour.

From Burdwan (Bardhaman) one can reach Kamarpukur & Jayrambati after travelling 64 Kms. by road comfortably in just one and half hour. Private and state buses for the route of Burdwan to Ghatal & Burdwan to Haldia which passes through Kamarpukur are available in every hour.

Various transport options are also available from Kamarpukur (6 Kms. away) & Bishnupur (43 Kms. away) to reach at Jayrambati.

Matri Mandir (The Holy Mother’s Temple): The main attraction of Jayrambati is this beautiful temple, was dedicated to the Holy Mother by Swami Saradananda (a Monk of Ramakrisna Monastic Order) on 19th April, 1923. This temple is situated exactly on that spot where Shri Maa Sarada Devi was born. Once upon a time the dwelling house of her father Shri Ramchandra Mukhopadhyaya was situated in this particular location. The Holy Mother’s marriage with Shri Ramakrishna was also took place in that very house. A beautiful idol of Shri Maa Sarada Devi made of white marble stone has been installed inside the temple, which is being worshipped daily by her disciples with enchanting hymn.

Visiting Hours: Morning 5:30 am – 11:30 am & Evening 4:00 pm – 8:30 pm (April to September) and Morning 6:00 am – 11:30 am & Evening 3:30 pm – 8:00 pm (October to March).

There are several other visiting spots within the temple complex and in & around Jayrambati, such as – Jairambati Math, Puratan Bari (Old house of Maa Sarada), Nutan Bari (New house of Maa Sarada), Nara Narayan Temple, Punnipukur (the pond used by the Mother), Sundar Narayan Temple, Dharma Thakur Temple (Temple of Lord Dharma), Simhavahini Temple (Temple of Goddess Jagaddhatri), Talpukur or Barujjey Pukur (The holy pond was also used by Sarada Maa), House of Bhanu Pishi (Mother has been stayed here for few days), Bathing Ghat on the river AmodarShihar Shiva Temple, Telo-Bhelo village (where mother won over a dacoit & his wife by her utter innocence and love), Koalpara village and the temples of Kotolpur village.

Must Visit Nearby Places:

Kamarpukur (6 Km. away), Teracotta Temple town Bishnupur (43 Km. away), Joypur Forest (31 Km. away), Gangani The Grand Canyon of Bengal (42 Km. away) are the most popular nearby destinations around Jayrambati. You can also visit some nearby villages of Anur, Koalpara, Shihar, Fului & Kayapath.

How to Get around:  

Cycle rickshaw, Cycle van & Auto rickshaw are available to take you from one place to another for local sightseeing.

Where to Stay:

There are very few hotels & lodges are available in Jayrambati & among them, Sarada Tourist Lodge is the best private hotel for the tourists who wish to spend a couple of days here.

But the best place to stay in Jairambati is undoubtedly within the Matri Mandir Complex. but one needs to get permission for accommodation in advance from the temple authority. Written application has to be submitted two months prior to the trip. It is a free stay, however it is expected from the visitors to donate generously to the temple fund according to their competence.

Travel Tips:

It will take around half a day to cover the local tourist spots in Jayrambati only. But there are more than 20 different tourist spots in & around Jayrambati (including Kamarpukur). So, if any one wants to visit all of them then it will take at least two days to cover the entire Kamarpukur & Jayrambati.
