Geonkhali   situated at the confluence of rivers Damodar, Hooghly and Rupnarayan is an excellent place for weekend getaway. It is located 130 km to the south of Kolkata in the Mahisadal Block of East Midnapore district of West Bengal.  The confluence is a spectacular sight as the river is so wide that it resembles the sea. Geonkhali is connected to Gadiara and Nurpur by regular launch services.

Best Time to Visit:
You can visit the place any time of the year.

How to Reach:

Bus: You can catch bus from Esplanade to Nurpur, 52 km from Geokhali and then take a launch from Nurpur to reach the destination. You can also visit Gadiara and catch a ferry to cross over to Geonkhali.

Train: You can also board a train going to Bagnan from where you can catch Auto Rickshaws to Gadiara.

Car: If you want to go by car then reach for Kolaghat and take the NH 41 heading towards Haldia. Soon, you would reach the Nandakumar crossing from where you can take the road towards Mahisadal and then to Geonkhali.

Must See Places:

Geonkhali’s main attraction is its riverside village and the sea-like river. Other than the rivers, you can visit the nearby Mahisadal palace near Kolaghat and the Radha Krishna temple in Mahisadal.

What to Do:

The natural beauty of the place is worth observing. You can take a car to drive down the road or leisurely walk by the river side. There are remnants of launches and steamers by the riverside and as the place is still not crowded the peaceful environment attracts the photography lovers who can take their time to capture the perfect shot. There is a small park and a lake near the water treatment plant where you can visit.You can enjoy boat rides to nearby places as there is a ferry ghat available.

In the mohona there are local shops where handloom items are available.

How to Get around:

You can hire a car if you want to visit the nearby localities. You can cross the river in motor boats which will take you to other sight seeing places in a short span of time.

Geonkhali is perfect for a weekend getaway as you can cover almost all the tourist destinations in two days.

Must visit Nearby Places:

Gadiara is situated on the other side of the river and it takes 15 mins to reach the destination in the diesel powered boats.

From Gadiara you can also catch a boat to visit Nurpur.

Haldia, another tourist destination is just an hour away from Geonkhali.
