Chandaneswar is a nice village at the border area of Bengal and Orissa. It is just 6 km. away from Digha & considered as a local tourist spot from Digha. Chandaneswar is famous for a very old temple of lord Shiva in Balasore district of Orissa.  Every year in the month of chaitra the ‘chaitra mela’ is celebrated on the temple premises . It takes place in the last month of Bengali calendar year, and pilgrims from all over the country, especially from Orissa, Bengal and Bihar come to this fair.

Weather around the year:

It has moderate temperature throughout the year. Though the temperature rises above 35degree Celsius in summer but one never feels to warm as the cool sea breeze  keeps the weather pleasant . chandaneswar generally experiences an average rainfall with high humidity in the monsoon season.

Best Time to Visit/Seasons:

Best time to visit Chandaneswar is in the month of ‘chaitra’ that is approximately from 14 april to 14 may , as at that time you’ll  be able to enjoy the famous “Chaitra Fair” which continues for 13 days.

How to Reach:

Chandaneswar is just 6 km from digha and you can avail van rickshaws from new digha which will take you to Chandaneswar .
You can reach Digha by car , bus or train. It takes a little more than 4hours by car or bus if you take the national highway. There are several bus services that run frequently to Digha from Kolkata. Buses leave daily, every half an hour, from the Shahid Minar and Howrah Bus Terminus in Central Kolkata. But the most comfortable way to travel is by train. There are direct trains which leave from howrah everyday.

Must See Places:

About 4 km from Chandaneswar is the tranquil beach of Talsari, where you can go to soothe your mind.

What to Do:

There is nothing much to do for you in Chandaneswar other than visiting the old temple. But just at a distance of 6kms. is the popular sea beach of Digha, where you can engage yourself in various water sports & shopping.

How to Get around:
Autos and cycle rickshaws are available for local sight seeing.

Where to Stay:
There are no accommodation available in chandaneswar itself but you’ll get a lot of good hotels and guest houses in Digha .

Travel Tips:
It takes about half an hour to visit Chandaneswar from digha and it won’t take you more than an hour or two to cover the whole area along with the local sight seeing places. So after visiting the temple you can go to Talsari, Digha & Udaypur sea beach if you want to stay in Digha for that night.

Must visit Nearby Places:

Lankeswari (14 km) and Kapal Kundala Temple (45 km) which is an ancient temple associated with Bankimchandra’s novel “Kapal Kundala” that is near Contai, can be visited.
